Shrouded in secrecy and mysticism, the Ninja is a formidable warrior that strikes swiftly before quietly escaping into the night. This elusive class has an eclectic repertoire to dispatch enemies from the shadows that specializes in evasion skills and attacks using Ninja Daggers, Shurikens, Kunai, and even Ninja Magic.

The Ninja class offers three types of roles to play: a Magic Ninja, a Throwing Ninja, and a Melee Ninja. Ninjas excel in the art of evasion, using skills like Cicada Skin Shed and Mirror Image which prevent almost all non-magical damage from harming them. Their magic skilltree offers several unique spells that are unlike that of any other class.

Kunai, Shuriken, and Magic Stones needed to cast Ninja Magic Skills can all be bought from the Ninja Tool Merchant located in the Prontera Weapon Shop (prt_in 162/139)prt_in.png. This trader will also allow you to create Kunai Scrolls as well.

NOTE: This class is not recommended for new players as it is difficult and expensive to play effectively. The Magic and Throwing Ninjas require materials/ammunition to use all of their skills with most having long casting times and Melee Ninjas are simply ineffective to level.

Job Change Guide

edit
See Ninja Job Change Guide for a full guide.

Once you are a Job Level 10 Novice, you have 2 methods of changing into a Ninja:

  1. Go to the Ninja Classroom on the 2nd Floor of Criatura Academy and speak to the NPC named Ninja Guide (iz_ac02 140/138)iz_ac02.png who sends you to Amatsu. Then, follow the Ninja Job Change Guide for information.
  2. Alternatively, take the boat from the docks in northeastern Izlude to get to Alberta (for 500z). Next, talk to Akagi located at (alberta 30/63)alberta.png in Alberta. Then, follow the Ninja Job Change Guide for information.

Regardless of how you Job Change, Cougar will reward you with a 13010.png Asura [2].

Builds

edit

I. Ninpou (Magic)

edit

Recommended stats by Base Level 99:

  • STR: 1
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: 50
  • INT: 90
  • DEX: 90
  • LUK: 1

The Magic Ninja is the most viable build now due to its strong AOE spells and ability to target elemental weaknesses. This build is similar to a Mage or Wizard but has its own set of unique skills to take advantage of but require magical stones as catalysts. Magic Ninjas raise their INT and DEX to improve damage as well as reduce cast times on spells. The rest of the points can be used to raise VIT for survivability and maybe some LUK for additional damage output if desired.

The majority of Ninja skills require catalyst stones which are sold by NPCs, usually in a major city's Weapon Shop. Their primary damage skills are Blaze Shield and Exploding Dragon that can most likely get you to Base Level 99, with Snow Flake Draft and First Wind also being a options. Freezing Spear can also be a strong single-target spell but its cast time can be a hurdle to overcome. Cicada Skin Shed is essential to increase survivability, while Ninja Aura gives a minor boost to INT.

Of the different Ninja builds, the Magic Ninja is now the fastest leveler due to their ability to mob up monsters with Blaze Shield and Exploding Dragon.

Primary Skills: Blaze Shield, Exploding Dragon, Snow Flake Draft, First Wind, Cicada Skin Shed

Complementary Skills: Ninja Aura, Freezing Spear

II. Togatana (Throwing)

edit

Recommended stats by Base Level 99:

  • STR: 90
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: 90
  • INT: 20
  • DEX: 40
  • LUK: 1

Throwing Ninja builds attempt to capitalize on the Ninja's various throwing skills to hunt monsters from a safe range. Unlike the Archer or Gunslinger, Throwing skills are based on STR for damage with DEX needed for HIT (and to reduce Throw Huuma Shuriken's cast time) and VIT for survivability. Throw Huuma Shuriken is also SP intensive, so some INT is recommended.

Throwing builds are harder to work with in earlier levels due to lack of a quick AOE skill and need for managing ammunition. Throw Shuriken is a quick and cheap single-target skill that, with enough ASPD, can be used in quick succession to make up for its lower damage. It also ignores accuracy so will always hit, regardless of your HIT rate, and requires 1 Shuriken to cast. Throw Kunai is the stronger version of your shuriken skill, able to get even stronger with elemental Kunai (each cast will require 1), with some minor cooldown preventing it to spam as quickly at a single target. Throw Huuma Shuriken is the Throwing Ninja's AOE damage skill and will be most effective for leveling on mobs, but it has an intensely long cast time and after cast delay that makes this skill difficult to use without a tank or expensive gear. To use this, you will need to equip a Huuma Shuriken weapon as equipment.

If zeny is no object, it's possible to build around Throw Coins, a single target DEF-piercing ranged skill, to spend 10,000z per use. Even if rich, it's not recommended as the price will build up rapidly with regular use for mediocre output for a single-target skill.

Primary Skills: Throw Shuriken, Throw Kunai, Throw Huuma Shuriken, Cicada Skin Shed

Complementary Skills: Throw Coins, Ninja Aura

III. Taijutsu (Melee)

edit

Recommended stats by Base Level 99:

  • STR: 90
  • AGI: 1 or 80
  • VIT: 1 or 80
  • INT: 15
  • DEX: 50
  • LUK: 30

A Melee Ninja is a niche and "for fun" build of the Ninja class due to the fact that they tend to be the most difficult to level. This is mainly due to the high SP costs of skills, low FLEE for the class, and no AOE skills to level effectively. It's common for melee ninjas to pick up one or two skills from the throwing ninja skill tree (since they both scale off STR), which tends to make leveling somewhat easier. Primarily, you will use Haze Slasher to attack and enter Hiding, then use Shadow Slash or Shadow Leap and repeat on monsters one-by-one.

Do not use Killing Stroke.

Melee ninjas get STR for damage, then AGI for FLEE and ASPD or VIT for survivability (due to poor dodge rate at low levels), and the rest into DEX and INT. Due to the high SP cost of skills, some INT is often recommended. Some Ninjas choose to get some LUK to aid the skill Shadow Slash, which has a natural 50% chance to CRIT, and every 3 points also increases ATK by 1.

This build poorly tries to copy the style of the Assassin class while utilizing the Ninja's own skills. Unfortunately, the Ninja doesn't get the FLEE bonuses of the Thief classes, so it relies heavily on its evasion spells and stealth attacks instead. With the proper Auto-Cast or Crit gears, this build can be fun if the player is looking for something similar to a real-world equivalent to a ninja type of gameplay... but is not usually recommended.

Primary Skills: Haze Slasher, Shadow Slash, Shadow Leap, Cicada Skin Shed

Complementary Skills: Ninja Aura

Tips & Tactics

edit

General Leveling Strategy

edit

Below are three suggestions to efficiently level a new character:

  1. First, get gear and experience for your new character by following this Izlude tutorial guide from the forums (this guide is also listed down below in the Archer equipment section with additional details). Note that you do not need to complete all of these quests, and simply joining the Academy and getting some gear may be all that you need to start. Using the Job Classrooms on the 2nd Floor to more easily reach your Job Change NPC is helpful as well.
  2. Using 19163.png Catherina Von Blood [1], you can level as soon as base level 3-56 in Sunken Ship. Talk to Fisk (alberta 189/151)alberta.png and pay 250z to go to the Sunken Shipalb2trea.png. As an archer, you will be using Arrow Shower.
  3. Without using 19163.png Catherina Von Blood [1], using the Geffen Bounty Board Quests kill Roda Frogs until level 21(they drop sticky webfeet that you can sell to players or turn in for the level 56-71 Eden Group Leveling Quests) , then using the Payon Bounty Board Quests kill Bigfoots until level 41. Then, using the Eden Group Leveling Quests and Geffen Bounty Board Quests, kill Orc Warriors, Orc Ladies, and Orc Babies until level 60.
You can accept multiple quests at one time, however when turning in do note that you cannot gain more than 1 full level from a single quest, so do try to turn the quests in when you have a low exp percentage or after you've job changed if you're job level 49.

Kunai, Scrolls, and Hotkeys

edit

Placing both your Kunai and Kunai Scrolls on the hotkey bar will allow players to monitor how many Kunai they have left, open new Kunai Scrolls with a single key-press, and equip Kunai if you accidentally run out. This can be a life saver in emergency situations.

Affordable HP Recovery

edit

When mobbing or tanking groups of monsters, especially for AOE leveling, Healing Items WILL need to be consumed and often even spammed.

Two popular and cheap healing items are Nepeta Cataria and Fresh Fish due to their cheap cost and low weight:

  • 11602.png Nepeta Cataria can be purchased from Cat Paw Shrimp Merchant in Izlude (izlude 117/165)izlude.png or Prontera (prontera 137/223)prontera.png (or in Lasagna (lasagna 166/117)lasagna.png if starting as a Doram) for only 15z each (11z with max Discount).
  • 579.png Fresh Fish can be purchased from Cooking Merchant (payon 167/134)payon.png in Payon or Chef's Assistant (alberta 167/134)alberta.png at the docks of Alberta, as well as other cities, for only 250z each (190z with max Discount).

For a list of Healing Items, a comparison, and a list of a couple popular Healing Items, please see the main article: Healing Items.

Other Suggestions

edit
  1. Your next class is a Kagerou/Oboro; you may have to adjust your build accordingly.
  2. Use Eden Group Leveling Quests and Bounty Board Quests to find monsters to kill around your level.
  3. Use Stat Reset to reset your stats as needed to maximize your damage.
  4. Use Skill Reset to reset your skills as needed to maximize your damage.
  5. Use Elemental Converters to increase your damage by changing your weapons element that is strong against the monster's element.
  6. Use ASPD Potions to greatly increase your killing speed at lower levels.
  7. Use the Archer/Mage/Ninja Sniping Maps in Leveling Spots to kill monsters from far away
  8. Useful recovery items for HP/SP (if using heavier items like Meat/Honey, it is advised to RODEX separate amounts to yourself in smaller portions to keep within your weight limit):
  9. Useful DEX or ATK cards:
  10. Useful long-ranged damage increase card:
  11. Useful HP cards:
  12. Useful Utility cards:
  13. May use any of the following gear at lower levels based on your budget:

Stat Descriptions

edit

It is vital that you understand how each status affects your character to play the game well. Below is a summary but go to the Primary Stats page for detailed information.

Melee Weapons - (Axes, Books, Daggers, Katars, Knuckles, Maces, and Spears)
Ranged Weapons - (Bows, Guns, Instruments, and Whips)

Equipment

edit

Weapons

edit
  • Magic Ninjas will primarily use the Daggers Asura or Bazerald, as those daggers raise their MATK. The Asura doesn't give an INT bonus like the Bazerald, but allows flexibility with its 3 card slots. Eden Daggers will be a lot better than Asura.
  • Throwing Ninjas will primarily use the Huuma Shurikens. The Huuma Blaze Shuriken's high attack is useful for Throw Kunai, while the Huuma Calm Mind deals the best damage with Throw Huuma Shuriken. If a Ninja wants to opt for more defense, they can switch to using a Dagger and Shield instead, but cannot cast Throw Huuma Shuriken without switching back to a Huuma, and must remember the Dagger's size modifier. An Ice Pick is a useful weapon against high-DEF enemies.
  • Killing Stroke Ninjas will want whichever weapon will give them the highest % modifier, those being 4 slotted Daggers or Huumas. Daggers are a better choice as they allow the Ninja to wear a shield, though against Demi Human targets the Battlegrounds Huumas will deal more damage at the sacrifice of a shield.
  • Melee Ninjas will primarily use various types of daggers to maximize on the damage output of their skills. Ninjas cannot wear Assassin Dagger, Counter Dagger, or Curse Dagger.

In general for all Ninja builds, a Fortune Sword is a notable weapon for using Perfect Dodge in combination with Cicada Skin Shed. The Kagerou and Oboro are able to dual-wield and thus may equip two fortune swords. Equipped with this and possibly other Perfect Dodge gears and cards (such as Yoyo-carded accessories), a Ninja can be used to drag high-attack monsters with little risk, but must still be careful of magic and monsters' elemental attacks. With two fortune swords and a pair of yoyo-carded accessories, this provides an additional 51 of Perfect Dodge.

Daggers

edit

Aside from being able to equip most dagger type weapons, Ninja's are also able to equip Ninja-class only daggers, some of which are available through item quests.

Armors

edit

Ninjas wear mostly light-medium DEF armors, including the general armors such as Mantle/Coat/Formal Suit, and several of the Thief armors such as Thief Clothes and Ninja Suit. The Ninja Suit can combo with the Shinobi Sash to help reduce the Ninja's SP consumption. The Pantie + Undershirt combo can be useful for AGI Ninjas to compensate for the lack of Flee boosting skills. Being an Expanded class, Ninjas cannot wear any gears that are labeled as being only for Transcendent classes.

Shields

edit
  • Guard [1]: The basic shield that any class can use. Good as a cheap and flexible shield, but is somewhat lacking in DEF.
  • Arm Guard [1]: A special shield which only Ninjas can equip, that gives more DEF then a Guard. Obtainable through a quest. Be careful when carding these, as Ninjas are the only class that can equip them.
  • Advanced Arm Guard [1]: Similar to the Arm Guard, but trades 1 DEF for 5 MDEF. The Valkyrja's Shield is a better choice if the player is worried about magic damage though.
  • Valkyrja's Shield [1]: The shield preferred by most players for PvP and WoE, due to its Element resistances and being usable by any class.

See Ninja Equipment Quests for information on how to make Arm Guards.

Ammunition & Catalysts

edit

Ninjas have two types of ammunition: Shuriken and Kunai. In addition, certain Ninja skills require catalysts that can only be purchased in Amatsu.

Shuriken

edit

Used for the skill Throw Shuriken. The bonus damage added by the skills Dagger Throwing Practice and Throw Shuriken are mastery atk.

See Shuriken for a list of available Shurikens.

Kunai

edit

Used for the skill Throw Kunai but have to be manufactured, unlike Shuriken which can be purchased from the NPC directly. Only Ninjas can make Kunai through an NPC at the Ninja Guild in Amatsu.

See Kunai for a list of available Kunai.

Catalysts

edit

Catalyst Stones are needed to cast various magic-type Ninja skills and to manufacture Kunai.

Using a Merchant with a Discount skill is a common practice to Conserving Zeny while buying Catalysts.

Catalyst Stones:
Name Required for Cost
Flame Stone Blaze Shield and Exploding Dragon 150z
Ice Stone Watery Evasion and Snow Flake Draft 150z
Wind Stone Lightning Jolt and First Wind 150z
Shadow Orb Mirror Image 300z

Class Data

Skills

edit

Ninjas have three primary branches of skills: Throwing, Deception and Magic. The player can opt to master one branch, or mix elements from two branches. They also have the sub-branch with supportive skills, and an "Ultimate" skill.

Throwing skills rely on the user's STR for damage, while Magic skills use INT, meaning that these two branches are rarely mixed. Deception is a mix of evasion skills and attack skills, and usually all Ninja builds will include Cicada Skin Shed due to its usefulness in avoiding attacks.

See Skill Reset for information about free skill resets.
