Merchants are clever traders, learning the economic markets of every city in all of the Rune-Midgarts Kingdom and beyond. Though not as strong as other classes, their utility skills, such as Pushcart to hold loot and Item Appraisal to identify items found on adventures, make them useful companions on the battlefield. Growing up around the Alberta docks, bustling with trade and commerce, they are learning how their traded materials can be used to create even stronger items the world has yet to see and maybe make a little money with their Vending Shops along the way.

Merchants are able to equip most of the game's heavy armor and melee weapons, allowing good defense and attack options. Their preferred weapon is the powerful Axe meaning, alongside their decent STR bonuses, Merchants are quite formidable in battle despite their appearance, even more so when swinging around their loot-laden carts at monsters.

Job Changing

edit

Once you are a Job Level 10 Novice, you have 2 methods of changing into an Archer:

  1. Go to the Merchant Guild in southwest Alberta (alberta 36/42)alberta.png. Talk to the Guildsman Mahnsoo (alberta_in 56/43)alberta_in.png behind the desk. They will let you change your job to Merchant and give you a 1381.png Novice Battle Axe [3] when you do so. Pursuing this method also unlocks the Cart Revolution, Crazy Uproar, Change Cart, Cart Decoration, and Open Buying Store Skills for free right as you change.
  2. Alternatively, go to the Merchant Classroom on the 2nd Floor of Criatura Academy and speak to Salim Hamid located at (iz_ac02 50/169)iz_ac02.png. He will warn you that you will not receive the bonus Job Skills listed above if you use this method and thus it is not recommended.

Builds

edit

I. Cart Revolution

edit

a. GAMEPLAY:

NOTE: Make sure you get Cart Revolution for free from the Merchant Guild in Alberta upon changing from Novice (usually via Classroom Warp after signing up at the Academy or taking the boat from Izlude) or else you will need to complete the Cart Revolution Quest at Job Level 35 to get it. Do NOT change from Novice to Merchant in the Academy itself or you will miss this skill.

This build focuses on grouping monsters and then spamming the AOE skill: Cart Revolution. Use gear that increases your DEF, HP, and SP pool and ensure that your Pushcart has enough items to hit the maximum Weight as that is the primary boost to its damage formula. It is recommended to buy several thousand 712.png Flower from the Prontera Flower Girl located at (Prontera 58/182)Prontera.png once you can afford 5000-8000 zeny to fill up your Cart (accessed with Alt+W).

b. STATS:
You may allocate certain status points depending on the monster you are killing, your survivability, skill playing the game, and planned character build later on. Since Cart Revolution ignores FLEE, you will not need DEX but consider your 2nd Class Build before ignoring it. If struggling with survivability, you may want to consider more VIT and INT in your build.

Base Level 40 base stat distribution suggestion:

  • STR: 52
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: 20
  • INT: 20
  • DEX: 1 (or 20 instead of some STR/VIT/INT to help level up as a Novice or prepare for 2nd Class Build)
  • LUK: 1

II. Mammonite & Auto-Attack

edit

a. GAMEPLAY:

Please note that this build is not recommended for new players due to the zeny cost involved with each cast of the skill.

This build focuses on weakening or killing monsters one at a time using Mammonite and finishing them off with quick auto-attacks as needed. Ideal targets to kill for this build are passive monsters, such as Willow or Bigfoot, so you do not get mobbed while finishing them off with your increased ASPD and dodging with FLEE. This type of build isn't recommended for the long term or new players, making it a very niche option.

  • Alternative gameplay: Since Mammonite has no pre or post cast times and is only limited by animation delay, with enough ASPD and zeny you could technically only spam this skill quickly on monsters to kill them rather than auto-attacking at all. For rich players only.

b. STATS:
You may allocate certain status points depending on the monster you are killing, your survivability, skill playing the game, and planned character build later on. The main focus is STR for ATK and AGI for ASPD & FLEE, but feel free to add more DEX to give you HIT as needed.

Base level 40 base status distribution suggestion:

  • STR: 20
  • AGI: 52
  • VIT: 1
  • INT: 1
  • DEX: 20
  • LUK: 1

Tips & Tactics

General Leveling Strategy

edit

Below are three suggestions to efficiently level a new character:

  1. First, get gear and experience for your new character by following this Izlude tutorial guide from the forums (this guide is also listed down below in the Merchant equipment section with additional details).
  2. Using 19163.png Catherina Von Blood [1], you can level as soon as base level 3-56 in Sunken Ship. Talk to Fisk (alberta 189/151)alberta.png and pay 250z to go to the Sunken Shipalb2trea.png. Use any AoE skill available for your class (e.g., Magnum Break, Fire Ball, Cart Revolution, etc.). You may use 4084.png Marine Sphere Card to use Magnum Break if your class does not have an AoE skill.
  3. Without using 19163.png Catherina Von Blood [1], using the Payon Bounty Board Quests, kill Willows until level 21 and Bigfoot until level 41. Then, using the Eden Group Leveling Quests, kill Orcs, Orc Ladies, and Orc Babies until level 55 and Geffen Bounty Board Quests, kill Orcs and Orc Ladies until level 60. You can stack the quests for Orc and Orc Lady kill counts by having both quests active!

Stats Description

edit

It is vital that you understand how each status affects your character to play the game well. Below is a summary but go to the Primary Stats page for detailed information.

Melee Weapons - (Axes, Books, Daggers, Katars, Knuckles, Maces, and Spears)
Ranged Weapons - (Bows, Guns, Instruments, and Whips)

Overall Tips and Suggestions

edit
  1. Your next class is either an Blacksmith or a Alchemist; you may have to adjust your build accordingly.
  2. Use Eden Group Leveling Quests and Bounty Board Quests to find monsters to kill around your level.
  3. Use Stat Reset to reset your stats to maximize your damage.
  4. Use Skill Reset to rest your skills to maximize your damage.
  5. Use Elemental Converters to increase your damage by changing your weapons element that is strong against the monster's element.
  6. Use ASPD Potions to greatly increase your killing speed at lower levels.
  7. Useful recovery items. (If using Meat/Fresh Fish, it is advised to RODex it to yourself in smaller portions to keep within your weight limit)
  8. Useful STR or ATK cards:
  9. Useful HP cards:
  10. Useful Utility cards:
  11. May use any of the following gear based on your budget:

I. Enchanter Mounds Quest

edit

After creating a Novice character, follow the section of this Izlude tutorial guide titled "Enchanter Mounds Quest" which involves NPC Enchanter Mounds in Izlude at (izlude 96/125)izlude.png. This quest will allow you to enchant the 2302.png Cotton Shirt that you get the moment you created your Novice character with the enchantments Max HP+100 and Max SP+50, provided that you complete the step that requires you to speak with NPC Enchanter Almond J in Izlude at (izlude 108/139)izlude.png. This cotton shirt proves itself useful once you change your class and can no longer equip most of the novice gear provided to you when you register at the academy. It is recommended to card this cotton shirt with cards that increase HP and/or SP such as 31016.png Decorated Evil Tree Card or 4003.png Pupa Card.

After providing Enchanter Mounds in Izlude at (izlude 96/125)izlude.png with a review of the service they provided during the enchanting quest, you can talk to Enchanter Almond J in Izlude at (izlude 108/139)izlude.png to enchant the novice weapon you receive after you change your class from Novice to Merchant. The two enchantments provided are random and if you aren’t happy with the result you can enchant it again endlessly. You will likely use this enchanted weapon until you can do the level 26 part of the Eden Group Equipments Quests, which is the first part of that questline that rewards a weapon. Keep in mind Enchanter Almond J won’t enchant the Novice Main Gauche that you get for registering at the academy despite it being a novice weapon.

II. Eden Group Equipments Quests

edit

Starting at level 12 you can complete the Eden Group Equipments Quests to obtain free equipment for your class. This equipment is sufficient to get you to level 99.

III. General Weapon Recommendations

edit

The following weapons are sequenced from the fastest to the lowest ASPD and lowest to the highest ATK generally.
Weapon damage does not matter for Cart Revolution skill. (See Cart Cart Revo Build above.)

a. Daggers

b. One Handed Swords

d. Axe

e. Mace
