A Swordman is a strong-willed fighter seeking to lead other adventurers with their Sword and Shield. Though stubborn like the waves of the sea, a Swordman is able to use their powerful attack skills to change the tide on the battlefield. Growing up in Prontera's satellite port town of Izlude, where many skilled instructors work at the local Academy, they have been trained that the best defense is a good offense and protecting others should always be their priority.
A Swordman tends to have high ATK from their high STR and bonuses with One Handed Swords and Two Handed Swords, with many of their skills boosting the damage of these weapons, but they are also trained to use Spears, Axes, Maces, and Daggers. They can also equip heavy armor and shields to boost their DEF and their high HP pool from VIT helps with tanking mobs for their party.
Job Changing
editOnce you are a Job Level 10 Novice, you have 2 methods of changing into a Swordman:
- Go to Izlude and enter the Swordman Guild on the west side of town at . Talk to the Swordman NPC in the center room behind the desk who will change your job to Swordman and reward you with a
Novice Falchion [3].
- Pursuing this method also unlocks the Berserk, Fatal Blow, and HP Recovery While Moving Skills for free right as you change.
- Alternatively, go to the Swordsman Classroom on the 2nd Floor of Criatura Academy and speak to the NPC, Swordman Trainer, located at . He will warn you that you will not receive the bonus Job Skills listed above if you use this method and thus it is not recommended.
Builds
editI. Magnum Break
edita. GAMEPLAY:
This build requires you to gather mobs of monsters and then kill them all at once using Magnum Break. You may have to use Provoke to help attract passive monsters to you. Use gear that increases your DEF and HP / SP pool and using a One Handed Sword and Shield, with maxed Sword Mastery, is recommended for this build for better survivability. You will use many recovery items or leech gear as you are just starting out, but teaming up with an Acolyte for Heals can help avoid using costly consumables.
b. STATS:
You may allocate certain status points depending on the monster you are killing, your survivability, skill playing the game, and planned character build later on. The main focus is STR for ATK and VIT for survivability but if you find yourself missing monsters, add more DEX to give you HIT. Some INT is recommended since your main means of leveling is casting your AOE skill over and over on mobs.
Base level 40 base status distribution suggestion:
- STR: 40
- AGI: 1
- VIT: 30
- INT: 16
- DEX: 20
- LUK: 1
II. Bash & Auto-Attack
edita. GAMEPLAY:
This build focuses on weakening or killing monsters one at a time using Bash and finishing them off with quick auto-attacks as needed. Using a Two Handed Sword with Two-Handed Sword Mastery is recommended for the the higher ATK bonuses. Ideal targets to kill for this build are passive monsters, such as Willow or Bigfoot, so you do not get mobbed while finishing them off with your increased ASPD. This type of build isn't recommended for the long term, but is very affordable for new players early on.
b. STATS:
You may allocate certain status points depending on the monster you are killing, your survivability, skill playing the game, and planned character build later on. The main focus is STR for ATK and AGI for ASPD & FLEE, but feel free to add more DEX to give you HIT as needed. You can also opt to get a little INT for enlarging your SP pool if you feel it is lacking/you want to rapid cast Bash more.
Base level 40 base status distribution suggestion:
- STR: 26
- AGI: 50
- VIT: 1
- INT: 1
- DEX: 20
- LUK: 1
Tips & Tactics
editGeneral Leveling Strategy
editBelow are three suggestions to efficiently level a new character:
- First, get gear and experience for your new character by following this Izlude tutorial guide from the forums (this guide is also listed down below in the Swordman equipment section with additional details).
- Using
Catherina Von Blood [1], you can level as soon as base level 3-56 in Sunken Ship. Talk to Fisk and pay 250z to go to the . Use any AoE skill available for your class (e.g., Magnum Break, Fire Ball, Cart Revolution, etc.). You may use
Marine Sphere Card to use Magnum Break if your class does not have an AoE skill. - Without using
Catherina Von Blood [1], using the Payon Bounty Board Quests, kill Willows until level 21 and Bigfoot until level 41. Then, using the Eden Group Leveling Quests, kill Orcs, Orc Ladies, and Orc Babies until level 55 and Geffen Bounty Board Quests, kill Orcs and Orc Ladies until level 60. You can stack the quests for Orc and Orc Lady kill counts by having both quests active!

Equipment
editI. Enchanter Mounds Quest
editAfter creating a Novice character, follow the section of this Izlude tutorial guide titled "Enchanter Mounds Quest" which involves NPC Enchanter Mounds in Izlude at . This quest will allow you to enchant the
Cotton Shirt that you get the moment you created your Novice character with the enchantments Max HP+100 and Max SP+50, provided that you complete the step that requires you to speak with NPC Enchanter Almond J in Izlude at . This cotton shirt proves itself useful once you change your class and can no longer equip most of the novice gear provided to you when you register at the academy. It is recommended to card this cotton shirt with cards that increase HP and/or SP such as
Decorated Evil Tree Card or
Pupa Card.
After providing Enchanter Mounds in Izlude at with a review of the service they provided during the enchanting quest, you can talk to Enchanter Almond J in Izlude at to enchant the novice weapon you receive after you change your class from Novice to Swordman. The two enchantments provided are random and if you aren’t happy with the result you can enchant it again endlessly. If you were able to enchant the novice rod you would likely use this enchanted weapon until you can do the level 26 Eden Group Equipments Quests which is the first part of that questline which rewards a weapon. Keep in mind Enchanter Almond J won’t enchant the Novice Main Gauche that you get for registering at the academy despite it being a novice weapon.
