Hunters are the 2nd Job Class of an Archer and are skillful at indirect combat, using their Bow to snipe from far away or by laying traps to incapacitate their target. These traps will also cause various status effects (i.e. Sandman inflicts the status Sleep, for example) or cause elemental damage (i.e. Blast Mine or Land Mine) to a target.

Additionally, Hunters are able to call upon an animal companion: the Falcon. Falcons give Hunters the ability to deal damage to multiple monsters at once without using Arrows or Traps using their new skill, Blitz Beat, and they also have the ability to reveal concealed enemies and destroy enemy traps, with Detect and Spring Trap respectively.

Job Change Guide

edit

See Hunter Job Change Guide for detailed information.

Changing into a Hunter from an Archer requires the player to complete a number of tasks given by the Hunter's Guild in Hugel, including:

  • Taking a Personality Test
  • Random Item Collection
  • Monster Hunting Quest

After completing these tests, the player will be transformed into a Hunter. If you are Job Level 50 when you change, you will receive a 1718.png Hunter Bow as a reward. This is a very strong weapon when used with 1774.png Hunting Arrow.

Builds

edit

I. Arrow Shower

edit

Base Level 99 base stat distribution suggestion:

  • STR: 1
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: 90
  • INT: 50
  • DEX: 90
  • LUK: 1

Although Hunters gain access to new Falcon and Trap skills, the Archer skill Arrow Shower is still the most reliable AOE and only becomes more powerful with better gear and stats. With a proper set up and the right Elemental Arrows or Elemental Converters, this build can level very effectively and quickly to Base Level 99 by continuing the same strategy as before.

DEX is still your main damage and HIT stat, while VIT keeps you alive when mobbing larger groups of monsters and INT is recommended for SP regen and pool size.

II. Claymore Trap/Blast Mine/Freezing Trap/Land Mine

edit

Base Level 99 base stat distribution suggestion:

  • STR: 1
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: 50
  • INT: 90
  • DEX: 90
  • LUK: 1

This build focuses on the new Traps available to Hunters -- Claymore Trap, Blast Mine, Freezing Trap, and Land Mine -- to deal specific elemental damage to groups of monsters. If you consider a monster's elemental weakness, traps can usually deal enough to one-shot any monster weak to the element in the Hunter's level range. Hunters can simply lay down traps in a monster's path or lure monsters into pre-laid traps to one shot them using skillful movement or stopping them in their tracks with an Ankle Snare.

Damage for these traps are not calculated based on ATK (nor MATK) and simply use the Hunter's DEX and INT stats. Therefore, it is possible to use a dagger and shield with this to maximize damage reductions. Other Hunter builds that are Bow-oriented can also use traps on the side while using associated skills as needed.

DEX and INT are your primary damage stats for this build, while VIT keeps you alive when mobbing larger groups of monsters.

III. Blitz Beat & Auto-Attack

edit

Base Level 99 base stat distribution suggestion:

  • STR: 1
  • AGI: 90
  • VIT: 1
  • INT: 1
  • DEX: 90
  • LUK: 50

A Blitz Beat build can be recommended for newer players with less funds as it relies on using the Falcon to attack, whether via manual casting of the skill or auto-casting it when attacking with arrows. This means you can level a Hunter using no ammunition (if manual casting) and less healing items with your higher FLEE at the cost of slower leveling. The Passive Skill, Steel Crow, increases damage of the main skill of this build and the trap, Ankle Snare, can freeze enemies to pick off at a distance.

This build is specialized in two means of leveling:

  • CTRL+R-Click (or /nc) killing monsters using a high ASPD to get the Falcon to proc an automatic Blitz Beat after running around and gathering mobs into a tight grouping. This method can offer higher DPS at the cost of using Arrows but requires higher LUK to increase the chance it goes off.
  • Manually casting Blitz Beat after running around and gathering mobs into a tight grouping. This method suffers from some minor cast times but guarantees the skill and uses no ammunition to use.

DEX is still your main damage and HIT stat, while AGI is desired for higher ASPD and FLEE to dodge individual monsters. LUK is then recommended for upping the chance for Blitz Beat to proc when auto-attacking and adding more damage by allowing arrows to crit.

Tips & Tactics

Hunter Bow & Hunting Arrows

edit

The Hunter Bow with Hunting Arrow combination is strongest for Hunters, especially if using Elemental Converters (or if Sage Endows are available) to maximize damage. When a Hunter Bow is combined with Hunting Arrows, players receive a +50% ranged damage bonus to all attacks. The unslotted Hunter Bow is a free gift from the Hunter guild to all hunters that job change at Job 50, but it can also be purchased in the Payon Weapon Shop for very cheap if you lose it.

This combo can be made even stronger if using a 1726.png Hunter Bow [1] with a damage increasing card such as 4094.png Archer Skeleton Card or 4428.png Bow Guardian Card.

12576.png Hunting Arrow Quivers can be purchased from Quivering Merchant (moc_paraup 41/162)moc_paraup.png on the 2nd Floor of Eden Group, the Mora Village Tool Dealer (mora 100/118)mora.png in Mora (locked behind a Level 100 Questline), or off other players through Merchant vend shops.

Arrows, Quivers, and Hotkeys

edit

Placing both your arrows and quivers on the hotkey bar will allow players to monitor how many arrows they have left, open new quivers with a single key-press, and equip arrows if you accidentally run out. This can be a life saver in emergency situations.

Affordable HP Recovery

edit

When mobbing or tanking groups of monsters, especially for AOE leveling, Healing Items WILL need to be consumed and often even spammed.

Two popular and cheap healing items are Nepeta Cataria and Fresh Fish due to their cheap cost and low weight:

  • 11602.png Nepeta Cataria can be purchased from Cat Paw Shrimp Merchant in Izlude (izlude 117/165)izlude.png or Prontera (prontera 137/223)prontera.png (or in Lasagna (lasagna 166/117)lasagna.png if starting as a Doram) for only 15z each (11z with max Discount).
  • 579.png Fresh Fish can be purchased from Cooking Merchant (payon 167/134)payon.png in Payon or Chef's Assistant (alberta 167/134)alberta.png at the docks of Alberta, as well as other cities, for only 250z each (190z with max Discount).

Equipment

Eden Group Equipments Quests

edit
Main article: Eden Group Equipments Quests

Eden Group Equipment is free and a great place to start for gear to use. The Bow is a good weapon and generally a good choice for a Hunter and their future rebirth, especially if you do not decide to use/have lost the 1718.png Hunter Bow received upon changing into Hunter.

General Equipment Recommendations

edit
Main article: Equipment

The Equipment article lists some general all purpose equipment that is useful through the PVM phase and also for endgame use as well.

Third Class Compatible Equipment

edit
Main article: Ranger Equipment

It is recommended to look at the Equipment recommendations for the Third Class job to see what equipment to strive for, rather than to spend a lot of money on a piece of equipment that will not be used in the future as a third class. However, some equipment may have a high level requirement, or are transcendent only.

Card Sets

edit

The Archer Card Set is a decent boost for early leveling, even possibly viable until 99. When this set is assembled, the following effects are bestowed alongside the bonuses each individual card offers:

  • AGI +5.
  • DEX +3.
  • Increases ranged damage by 20%.
  • Perfect Hit +20
  • If used by an Archer job type
    • Adds a 1% chance of inflicting Coma on Brute race targets when doing a physical attack
    • Increases the experience given from Brute race monsters by 5%.
